How Stylish New Yorkers Are Celebrating the adidas Superstar’s 50th Anniversary 1

As adidas continues to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Superstar, we head to the streets of New York City to see how creatives in the city that never sleeps are rocking the iconic kicks.

The shoe first made waves in 1970 as the first low-top basketball sneaker to feature all-leather uppers and its now-infamous rubber shell toe, but it was a co-sign and eventual collaboration with Run DMC over a decade later that would solidify the Superstar’s legacy as a style icon.

Now, 50 years later, the Superstar is just as at home on the stylish streets of NYC as it is on the hardwood. To show just what we mean, we connected with local creatives from the New York area who styled the shell toes their own way. From fashion photographers like Josh Sobel and Visuals by Pierre to nightlife mavens DJ Odalys and Jorge ‘Gitoo’ Wright, the Superstar shows it’s still the go-to shoe for creators and tastemakers.

See how they’re rocking them below, and cop your own pair of adidas Superstars here.
