Brand: Footshop x adidas

Model: “Blueprinting”

Key features: The iconic adidas Superstar has been reworked by Czech Republic-based sneaker store Footshop, bringing elements of a 300-year old craft from the region to a silhouette which celebrates its 50th birthday this year. Traditionally-patterned indigo dresses the heel tab, tongue label, and insole, all of which contrast nicely with the off-white, tumbled leather upper.

Footshop’s iteration also gives the Superstar a more fall and winter-ready character, with the new sneaker featuring multiple elements that wouldn’t be amiss on a hiking shoe. These include its spiked sole, classic hike laces, and the metal D-ring lace system.

Bringing a unique sense of artistry to an icon, Footshop is the first retailer in central Europe to collaborate with the German sportswear giant. The release is limited to just 520 pairs.

Release Date: Saturday, October 10 (raffle open now)

Price: €120

Buy: Footshop

Editor’s Notes: “Blueprinting” is a centuries-old craft that has its roots in Footshop’s key countries. Part of UNESCO’s cultural heritage list, the technique sees white fabric treated with a light-green emulsion, which intricate patterns are then applied to, historically via carved stamps. Next, the fabric is soaked in an indigo blue dye and spun on five wheels. Several rounds of washing reduce color loss in the fabric.

The specific “Blueprinting” patterns seen on this collab Superstar are inspired by traditional festive folk costumes from the region. With this release marking the first time a retailer in central Europe has collaborated with adidas, the Footshop x adidas offers a sense of tradition that’s often unexplored in modern drops.
