Virgil “Teasing” the MoMA Air Force 1 Doesn’t Mean It’ll Be Re-Released 3

Virgil Abloh posted a product shot of his 2018 Nike Air Force 1 collaboration on Instagram over the weekend. The co-branded Off-White™ x Nike sneaker commemorated the opening of Items: Is Fashion Modern?, an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

The triple black Air Force 1 with silver detailing first made its appearance at Miami Art Basel, before being released to the public in highly-limited numbers via MoMa’s own design store in NYC.

Following Abloh’s posting of the old collaboration on his Instagram, outlets and social media users assumed that he was teasing a re-release of the hyped sneaker, though nothing seems to indicate that at this time.

In fact, all signs point against the sneaker seeing a wider release, as that is not the roll out pattern Nike and Off-White™ have followed since their inaugural “The Ten” collection in late 2017.

Abloh has previously confirmed that “The Ten” has come to an end, with his focus shifting towards contemporary silhouettes, original models, or Nike’s running category. It would also be uncharacteristic of both brands to re-release a sneaker two years after its original release.

Much more likely, Abloh is reminiscing about and appreciating one of his best collaborations to date. Of course, with Abloh and Nike you never really know what’s what until you’ve lost a raffle or taken the L on SNKRS. Stay tuned for any updates.
