Sneakerheads are bombarded with news of upcoming releases on a daily basis. To save you some time from searching each and every site and leak account, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to sift through the onslaught and bring you a few noteworthy kicks that have captured our attention.
Today, detailed images of Nike‘s Chinese New Year Dunk Low surfaced, promising fireworks for the celebration. We know you’ve been seeing a ton of Dunks lately, but don’t turn a blind eye to these bad boys. They feature wear-away elements.
We also got wind of a new collaboration between adidas and AriZona Iced Tea, another nod to the beverage maker’s iconic big can. Converse and Concepts have cooked up something special as well, ultimately celebrating their Massachusetts roots, while Tremaine Emory and Denim Tears are prepping a restock of the highly sought-after Converse Chuck 70.
Release Date: January 27 in China
Where to Buy: Nike China
Editor’s Notes: Nike is celebrating the Chinese New Year with a special colorway of the Dunk Low. The iteration is being called “Firecracker,” as the sneaker’s upper mimics the wrapping that firecrackers come packaged in. Boasting three layers, the Dunk Low “Firecracker” has tearaway and scratch-away elements, as reported by Nice Kicks. The blue layer can be rubbed away to reveal a red base, which then wears away to showcase a black and grey upper. The sneaker is currently listed on Nike China as releasing on January 27. However, it remains to be seen if/when the Dunks will arrive stateside.
Release Date: February 4
Where to Buy: adidas
Editor’s Notes: adidas and AriZona Iced Tea are following up 2019’s collaboration with a new joint effort consisting of four colorways of the Superstar. The collection, which is inspired by the iconic AriZona big cans, incorporates playful AriZona branding, including the “Have an Iced Day” slogan that appears on the heels. The 2021 collab is led by the cherry blossom iteration, as each sneaker from the capsule comes with a cherry blossom laced pouch designed to hold a $1 bill, the price of one AriZona big can. Each AriZona x adidas Superstar will retail for $100.
Release Date: January 28
Editor’s Notes: It’s fitting that Concepts’ first collaboration of 2021 is with Converse, seeing as both companies are based in Massachusetts. Taking the connection a step further, the project is also meant to celebrate the game of basketball, which originated in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Subsequently, Concepts has reimagined the first-ever hoops sneaker, the Chuck 70, while also taking on the newer All Star BB Evo silhouette. The gradient peach-colored Chuck 70 will sell for $120, as the green All Star BB is priced at $140.
Release Date: January 14
Where to Buy: adidas
Editor’s Notes: adidas is already looking ahead to Valentine’s Day with the release of a thematic Superstar. The pair arrives in a classic white and black colorway, with complementary red detailing that points to the holiday. The customary Three Stripes branding appears in black on the side, while “Superstar,” the Trefoil logo on the heel, and tongue insignia all emerge in red. A red heart has been embroidered at the heel to complete the Valentine’s Day theme. The Superstar will be available beginning January 14 at 6 p.m.
Release Date: January 19
Where to Buy: Denim Tears
Editor’s Notes: Tremaine Emory made waves last October with his politically-charged Denim Tears x Converse collaboration. Striving to hold Converse accountable in implementing lasting change amid the Black Lives Matter protests, the sneaker undoubtedly delivered a strong message. The Chuck 70 Hi will be restocked in just a matter of days, albeit with one slight variation compared to the original. The new pair welcomes David Hammons’ signature printed on the inside of the tongue — Hammons is the artist responsible for the iconic African-American Flag.
