Craig Green unveiled his latest collaborative footwear offering — for lack of a better term — with adidas on Instagram yesterday. The piece, which is part of the designer’s SS21 collection, looks more like an ankle bracelet worn by athletes than any traditional style of footwear.
It’s definitely made of leather — though whether it’s vegan or not remains to be seen — it features co-branded detailing on the upper part of the ankle collar, and the shoe features open-toed, heeled, and Achilles sections.
Whatever it is — sandal, sock, ankle support — it’s one of the wilder collaborative shoes to hit the market in recent seasons and speaks to adidas’ trust in its collaborators. Craig Green, and many other adidas collaborators, have been given blank slates when it comes to reimagining classic silhouettes or designing their own. Kanye West and his YEEZY line is an obvious example. OAMC’s longstanding partnership with adidas is another.
Take a look at the Craig Green x adidas SS21 footwear style above and let us know if you have a name for it yet because we’re stumped.
